FRENCHMAN: JOURNAL ENTRY W/ COLLAGE PAPERS

I awoke this morning and looked at my little paintings from yesterday. Surprise! The color had faded over night sitting on my desk. I guess the watercolor pen set will be relegated to journal and sketch books. Quite awhile ago I had glued some scraps of my hand painted collage papers randomly in a sketch book. I decided to try my little Frenchman drawn over the collage papers and then try painting the image with my new watercolor brush pens. It's amazing how simplifying the image makes it so easy to quickly draw the shapes. Here is the result of my experiment. I rather like it. I think I might like to do something like this on a larger sheet of paper with lightfast paints.

I like this, too, and always enjoy your experimentations with papers, pens, watercolors, etc.

The JetPens site they do say "Like many watercolors, the SAI brush colors other than black are not light resistant, so colors will fade if kept in sunny areas".

But - fading overnight? Wow...

This collage has a very unique look to it - I so want to get back to this medium, but right now, those watercolor shows are in the way.

Nava, I keep telling you some of us don't read! I never bothered to check out the light fastness. Just checked to see that I was ordering what this other artist had used. I use reading for last resort when I can't figure something out so have to go the the instructions.

Just found your blog a few weeks ago and I am facinated by what you are doing with these concepts. Showing them applied sequentially to the same image is very revealing.
I'll have to put this on my "to do" list!

I ran across your blog recently and have been enjoying playing with the Frenchman image. Thank you so much for sharing your exercises - I'm learning a lot.
