PROFILE DEMO PAINTING ON TYVEK FOR SCVWS WORKSHOP

Today everyone worked on profile paintings.  The results were excellent.  It is a smaller group these last two days, so I will be combining the children's paintings with the profiles for a slide show on tomorrow's post.

This was a young man totally engrossed in his laptop computer at the airport.  He has that wonderful quality of young men who have grown tall and lanky but still have some of that awkwardness of  youth.

Here are the wonderful profile paintings everyone created today. There was a 3 day or 5 day option for this workshop. Because of work schedules and such, many weren't able to stay for the last two days. The stalwarts were able to spread out and have an entire table to themselves today. There is great work hear. Here are the paintings done on days 4 and 5. Not as much time for preparation but everyone worked hard and there were some major breakthroughs! Having done a demonstration of a profile on Tyvek, many of the workshop participants decided to try this new surface with some excellent results.

Tomorrow I will post some of the scenery in this beautiful canyon. Yes, Dorothy, you are still in Texas but it just doesn't look like it!

FASTEST DEMO IN THE WEST!

This is the demonstration I did for our second view of the head in the workshop: The Profile. I think this may be the fastest painting of this size (18 x 24) I can remember doing. I would have worked on it longer but it seemed complete to me. It's soooo hard to quit while you are ahead (no pun intended there). The tendency is to fuss and fuss with it. I am finding less is more. More and more of the time. I drew this very quickly with my oiler-boiler filled with diluted thalo blue the night before and painted it in 20 minutes on Thursday morning to start out the class day. It is on gessoed paper using traditional watercolors. I just love the texture that shows up when the paper has gesso on it.
