MONO PRINTING WITH ANNE BAGBY.......OH JOY, OH JOY!

At the beginning of September, I had the privileged of teaching with Anne Bagby in her fabulous studio in Winchester, TN.  I taught the second two days, but  Anne taught the first two days and shared some of her techniques for producing wonderful papers by mono printing.  Working with about 12 papers at the same time, one gets variations and a set of papers that are harmonious but each is different because each one has been printed differently but using a consistent palette.  Variations on a theme, as it were.  These papers came out so much more "finished" than my normal mono printing style.  I am not sure how I will use them, but I am anxious to try my hand at creating another series in this vein.  Anne has an amazing collection of hand made stamps and stencils.  She generously shared these with us.  I need to create a few more of my own before make more papers.  I can't wait to get started!

I love your new work but then I have always loved all of your work. I am however personally having a huge problem defining the planes in a face. I just don't get it. I remember seeing your older work defining the planes. Can you suggest where I may learn more about this? Thanks

It was fun meeting you at FWS! I love your work and these papers are beautiful. Did you use a Gelli Plate or something else to print on?

Hi Sherry. I like the papers so much, I don't want to mess them up!

Barbra, there is a company that makes models of heads from plastic, some show the planes very well. There is book they sell that breaks things down nicely. Go to planesofthehead.com and you can order the book. I hope this helps.

Hi Joyful, meeting people in person after meeting them online is a great experience! Part of the process was using a Gelli Plate, part was stamping, stenciling, mono printing directly on glass. Lots of interesting options!

They really are VERY inspiring pieces of work! I used to do slik screen printing on textiles and these just make you want to create a few designs again and start printing!

a-7I love the papers you made! Such interesting shapes and textures. You could almost frame them just the way they are. I'm interested to see what you do with them too.

What bliss!! My two favourite artists in one place - you and Anne. Wish I could have been one of the students. Will just have to keep studying your posts from afar (the UK).
