EMERGING!

It looks like I am emerging out of the background.  I hope I have drawn this accurately enough.  Working this scaled-up size makes it difficult.  I decided to stop here and explore some options in Photoshop Elements before I go any farther.  Using the brush tool at 35% opacity gives me the color and transparancy to simulate my next steps.

This is going to be great! Your work is like Chuck Close with a big twist. Love it.

Fascinating so far. I like the idea of your face coming out from the color blocks.

I love it !!!! I like it just as it is --- maybe darkening the darks a little. It looks almost like you have a hat on.

Are you self-taught in photoshop? What's the best way to learn? Your art is amazing. I love your colors.

I find it a bit scary! That's not necessarily a bad thing!

I like the balance between the geometric and organic.

Love your work-it has a painterly quality as well as an unfinished sketch-like quality to it! Thanks for sharing your work and your journey with us:)-Soraya

Aside from the eyes which I agree need some enlivening, I think it is a great painting. The idea of the emerging face is unique, and is working.

Maybe the trouble for you is that it is not really turning out to be a self-portrait because it does not represent who you are. Nevertheless, the powerful, overbearing, disapproving individual staring at me (that is not you) is well portrayed and makes a strong painting.

One other thought: The angle from which we are viewing the face is from below - a child's view. This, I think, tweaks those memories of how we once viewed adults. Whatever you do to it, this child's perspective will remain at this angle.

I like "Kansas City, Baby, It's Cold Outside." The name brings back fond memories. Plus, I love dogs. :)
