TAMING TAR GEL!

THE CLAN #16 YUPO W/TAR GEL
I have always been frustrated that I couldn't get tar gel acrylic to go exactly where I wanted.  I finally figured out a way to "draw" with it.  Using a rubber funnel I put the tar gel into an empty hair dye bottle that had a small but big enough opening.  It took awhile but I am happy with the results.  YUPO is so smooth the gel flattened out somewhat.  I am going to try it on traditional paper and see if it flattens out as much.  This version of The Clan is very colorful, lots of fun to do.

I just love the textures and colors on this one :) Wonderful painting. Hope some day you will make a list of all unconventional things you have used in making art ?!

Thanks, everyone, for the positive comments. Some asked about tar gel. It is an acrylic product made by Golden and probably a few others. It is very viscous and is usually applied by dipping a plastic spoon into the jar and letting the tar gel drip off the edge of the spoon in a stream. The higher you hold the spoon, the thinner the line. Tar gel will dry clear and raised and can be painted over. It can also be colored with acrylic pigments. It is hard to "draw" with the stuff if dripping off of a spoon. The bottle allowed me to be more exacting where I placed the line. Golden has a website where they explain more about their products. Hope this explanation helps.

Hi Myrna,
In a word, (or two) you never cease to amaze me!
It wouldn't surprise me to someday enjoy a new work of yours created entirely of Feta cheese, cement and dead bugs!
Keep at it, you genius!
Sincerely,
Gary.
