LOOSING TRACK!

THE CLAN #13

THE CLAN #13 COLLAGED BACKGROUND

I am starting to loose track of my numbering!  This painting I did was on top of an older, unsuccessful painting.  The collaged papers were all hand stamped tissue from my extensive collection.  Tomorrow I will be giving a demonstration for the Burlingame Art Society.  The meeting starts at 7PM.  This is the technique I will be showing.  It includes some of the ideas that I am going to teach at Kanuga this year.  Everything is coming together!

I received an e-mail today letting me know that the Western Federation Exhibition wants to use my painting for their poster and postcard.  This is the first time I have received such an honor.  Wish I could go to the show in Las Vegas this year, but I have a scheduling conflict.  When are they going to perfect the "Beam me up, Scotty" technology.  Then we could be two places at once!

Congratulations on such an exciting honor!! I love the use of tissue paper as your backgrounds, Myrna. How do you affix them to the canvas? I've tried this before and used Mod Podge. I don't think that is the right way, for sure. Made it difficult to paint on top of them.

Hi Sherry, I use a 50/50 solution of mat medium and water. Tissue is thin so it soaks through. The diluted amount of acrylic allows for the use of watercolor on top. Full strength doesn't work for watercolor. I like liquid watercolor (Dr. Ph Martin's Hydrus). A heavier paper requires full strength mat medium. You can also use YES Glue for heavier papers and that works with watercolor. Give it a try!

I am especially taken with this piece. Just the collage background alone is luscious. Do you buy special tissue paper, Myrna.

Hi Lisa, I see you live in Wichita, Ks. I am originally from KC. If you belong to any art societies that sponsor workshops, tell them about me. I would love to come to Wichita and give a workshop.

Hi Mary, You can use any tissue paper but there is better quality craft tissue that has more weight and is less fragile. I bought 500 sheet package at Costco over the holidays to find out it is really junky. I will use that stuff just glued down without stamping on it.

This one is excellent. Congratulations on getting your work published in a poster and postcard. Wish I could see the show, too.
