My critique group acts as my expert eyes. Often, they see something I missed. Sometimes their opinions are different from mine and I am not swayed. Either way, I find it very helpful to know what others see and I value the knowledge at expertise from each of them. Thursday morning we gather to share the week's efforts. Right now, I feel this piece is finished. I am happy I managed to keep much of the transparency of the background pieces. I was particularly delighted where some of the pattern fell on the face in a serendipitous way (beside the eye and crease down from the nostril)

FABULOUS !
This is a beautiful painting Myrna! I say yes it is done, but who am I to judge. You for sure are the best judge of your work. I'm the same way with a watercolor/critique group I'm in. There are certain members in this group who never say a painting is done or perfect or they like everything about it; they always find some little thing that bothers them. For the most part it's in one ear and out the other, but sometimes I make a point out of telling them that I'm leaving it the way it is. If this organization was just a critique group I wouldn't be in it because my true feeling on the matter is: I decide whether or not it looks good or it is finished. If I were to change a painting because someone points out a problem, then I feel as though the painting is no longer entirely composed by me. I don't like that feeling. I've been doing this long enough now that I really know what is good and what isn't and besides, if I like it, what does it matter? Sorry about the ramble, just my two cents. Your work is superb! I always enjoy studying it.
This is a terrific painting, Myrna. I've been following your posts and wondering where you would land with this interesting experiment. I think you made some great decisions and this is truly a unique form. Kudos!
Hi Myrna,
You have outdone yourself with this one! I love the concept and I agree with you: The bits of spontaneous texture are . . . . magical!
It looks done to me and I LOVE it.
xoxo
I really like your results on this self portrait. The little sketches in the background are interesting, but don't take away from the effect of the larger central image. You are lucky to have a critique group whose comments you respect. I appreciate you sharing all the steps along the way.
Beautiful, Myrna! What a wonderful concept.
Amazing!
Wonderful Myrna you are a genius, love it
Love this one! Seeing through the patterned layers makes the piece so interesting.
A very detailed expression of the patchwork that makes up a life.
Your work continues to amaze and inspire me. Of all the blogs I follow (and believe me there are far too many, when I should be getting on with my own painting) your's must surely be rated No. 1. Don't ever stop.
I think the patterns fell into place wonderfully, including the eye and nostril. Fantastic job.
I'm always amazed and "blown away" by your paintings. Thanks for showing your work in progress and the finished piece.
Myrna, I had my doubts about this when you started it - and I should never doubt you. This is wonderful!!!! I love it! Your creativity amazes me.
This came out just beautifully. It is amazing how this came together. My father-in-law can make chicken an infinite number of ways. Art is your chicken. ;)
Thank you all for taking the time to comment. Feedback is important to me and I appreciate all of you!
I have watched the process and the end result is magnificent!!! Outstanding piece.
Amazing! I love how you have combined "paper quilt" with "art quilt". This is surely a prize winner.
Beautiful work!
