GARAGE SALE TREASURE!

Look what I found in a neighbor's garage sale!!!  Only $5 so I couldn't pass it up.  When I got home, I did a little computer research.  they don't make this particular set anymore but a slightly smaller set in the same beautiful wooden case was listed as on sale for $69.95.    This set was 99% untouched.  Today I took out my pastel paper pad and started a drawing.  I love using the limited palette of Conte Crayons.  The charcoal and greys start to look blue and so you can get a pretty full range of warms and cools with white, black, grey, ochre and sanguine (red ochre).  I didn't get the hands finished....probably another half hour of work.

  2. What a great find, Myrna! (I never find stuff like this, but then I rarely hit garage sales either...maybe that is why? LOL) The piece itself is just fabulous, but then all of your pieces are!

  6. Thanks, Linda but it is in the wrong media for the competitions I enter.

Autumn, my husband is the garage sale person. It is rare to find something like this....just a lucky break!

  10. A lucky break indeed. I rarely find art supplies at garage sales. That kit with it beautiful box is very rare indeed. I love the drawing. I have to do some conte drawings just so my drawing students can see the range that one can get with a very limited palette. Enjoy!

  11. Well done on both counts! I love hunting for bargains, but garage sales don't really exist here.

Your rendering of the face is exquisite.

I really love how beautifully you've employed those new Conte crayons. Simply gorgeous; Sensitive, thoughtful, wise, reflective, and a quiet moment come to mind.
You have captured a great face with a wonderful expression. Brava!

  16. Hey Myrna, good find! As a dumpster diver and yard sale junkie, one of my best finds was a rather nice art easel that packed up into a carrying case. I retailed for around $140, I got it for $10!! Yay!
    Keep on making lovely things.
