PASSING THE TIME!

Here are two images I did sitting on the plane using the Sketch Club app on my iPad.  I am starting to get the hang of it.  I think this is my favorite app because of the ease of changing the tools, opacity and color.
After teaching in Bend, we came home for a few days then joined family and friends in Cambria for 3 days.  Came home, switched suitcases and left for Iowa to celebrate the life of my brother in law who passed away much too young last week.  We are back home now for a week before I leave for Bruge to teach.  Out of town company coming on Saturday and will be here until I leave on the 26th.  I doubt I will get much painting in but I will try to post the sketches I did in Cambria.  I am hoping I will be able to post from Belgium.  We'll see how that goes!

  2. These are both fabulous, Myrna! They both look familiar to me; are they stars or sports figures? Please accept my deepest condolences and sympathies on the loss of your brother-in-law.

  3. Myrna, Since you are doing so much traveling anyway, couldn't you find a bit of time to fly into Detroit, call me, I'll pick you up and put you up in my guest room (I'll cut some fresh flowers) and we can play with art for a couple of days. I know I could learn a ton from you.

Just a fantasy; but I did want to somehow express how much I love what you do.

    xoxo

  4. Hi Myrna, WOW! You certainly sound busy. It's a good thing you have the iPad with app to do some drawing. These are great! We just go the iPad and I was thinking about you and the work you're doing. Inspiring!

  8. Thank you, Autumn (you must have a regular name!) for your kind words of condolence.

I usually find images to paint in the magazine in the seat pocket. The first image is from some production of Cirque d'Soliel and the second image is David Copperfield, the magician. I do take some images to work with just in case I can't find something in the magazine.

  9. Vicki, I can come to Detroit. Find an organization to sponsor me and we can play with pen and paint!

  10. Hi Myrna,
Geez! If these are examples of simply, "passing time", I'd love to see your "serious" work!
But wait! We can, and we do! These are perfectly wonderful character studies, sketches or as I prefer to think of them; Portraiture by a creatively-gifted, inventive and sharing professional artist.
Your willingness to share your knowledge, art-spirit and creative courage is astounding.
Enjoy your endless travels and keep that electronic doo-dad close-by!
    Sincerely,
    Gary.

  11. Peggy, I can't wait to see what the iPad will do in your talented hands! There is an iPad app that will record each step in your painting and make a movie of the process on the iPad 2. I'm not sure which art app it is. Check around.

  15. Myrna,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your brother-in-law. Bruges is a serene place to regenerate.

Exquisite red-headed portrait. Nailed the facial shapes/planes!

  17. CLEVER toy... or should I say tool. It's only as good as its user, and you are on top of it.

  18. Thank you, Carol, for the condolences. You are such a caring person.

The face was lit from both sides making an interesting value pattern.

  19. Hi Wanda, thanks for the question. I e-mail the images to myself and then put them in my photo folder. I can print them out but I rarely do. They are just for fun.

  20. Thanks, Jo. I find the program Sketch club the easiest to work and I am getting better but there are some real pros out there who are familiar with digital painting on their computer.

  21. Go to my blog and click on "Lars" in my blog roll. Check out his latest post on other artist's self portraits. We are represented. By the way, I just resigned from Gallery Concord. Just not enough time to devote to it. I'm still retaining my CWA membership.

  22. Thanks, David, for the heads up! I see you are represented twice expressing several sides of your personality! I will miss having your great paintings in the Gallery and being able to spend the afternoon with you now and again.

  23. Myrna-
When you're buying chocolate in Bruges-and you WILL buy chocolate-it's everywhere...go to Dumon. It's a small shop on a side street. Their candy is handmade by a family-owned business and has no preservatives or additives. This is, without a doubt, the best I have ever eaten. It's all beautiful and fresh, but my favorite was the marbled white choclate asparagus spears filled with milk chocolate and hazelnut mousse. I bought some for gifts but had to eat them all myself before I ever got home. Shameful, but true.
