These are a few of the travel sketches I made while in Bend, Oregon, last week. I normally don't do plein air painting except when I am traveling. Having a small watercolor book with me is the perfect way to record the atmosphere of the place you are visiting. When you slow down and take the time to do a small painting, you will remember not only the visual elements, but you will be able to recall sounds, and conversations, and smells. When you revisit your little paintings, it will take you right back there. Somehow, photographs don't have the same power. It's not about how well you painted....its about imprinting the moment in your memory!
I am challenging myself to work on my art every day and create a minimum of 2 finished pieces each week. My intention is to explore ideas and techniques and push myself beyond my comfort zone. I will be working in a series with several different images. My interests at this time are drawing, line, texture and color. I will be posting exercises and challenges for myself and any others who wish to join in the Creativity Journey.

Myrna, these are just exquisite. I am envious of your talents!
ReplyDeleteTerrific sketches -well painted too :). I still have a hard time with just sketching and not minding how well they are painted!
ReplyDeleteHi,Myrna,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. And I use quick sketchs of people in order to memorize names instead of my poor memory ability. Once I sketch a person, I perfectly remember who s/he is.
Cheers,Sadami
Autumn, you are kind as ever!
ReplyDeleteHi Meera, I know sketch books seem intimidating because you don't want to mess them up with a bad entry. I like ones that you can remove pages!
ReplyDeleteSadami, what a brilliant idea! i have a terrible time with remembering names. I am going to try your system.
