This week John Salminen is in San Francisco. He judged the CWA National Show on Sunday and is giving a workshop this week. I wasn't able to take the workshop but plan to go to the California Watercolor Society Meeting tomorrow night for his demonstration. I have no idea what he will demo as his famous style is waaaaay to complicated to do anything in less than 2 hours. The painting "Hatful of Dreams" was the first painting I got into a national show and it was CWA! It was done in the saturated wet technique. This is my youngest son in his Halloween costume (minus the painted on mustache) when he was about 5. He will be 40 in April. Makes me want to cry when I think how fast the time has flown by. He still is very cute!

ReplyDeleteMy skin tones are all coming out really yellow, when I scan them, lately, even when I use a lot of water and can barely see the yellow on the paper.

ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed the CWA demo last night. Be interesting to see how someone who works in a complicated manner, creates something in a couple of hours for a public demo. Amazing how our children grow up - I remember painting my son and his friend peering over a bridge holding their fishing rods looking for a good spot when they were about 8 - he is now 42 this month. Yours is a lovely warm innocent portrait with a delightful title.

ReplyDeleteThe CWA demos are part of their monthly meeting. If a workshop is going on during that time, that artist generally does the demo. You can go to the CWA website for more information.
ReplyDeleteThanks Myrna! I was thinking about providing our demo and workshop information during their workshop and demos, and in return ask for theirs during our workshop and demos. I am helping Karen with the publicity of our workshops now, hence the question. (That and also I'd love to attend their demo if possible... :-P)

The painting of your son captivated me at once when I saw it. It holds such a story in it :) I like the washy background as well, how you only kept in the important elements. Beautiful job, I really like that illustrator's style.
