I am challenging myself to work on my art every day and create a minimum of 2 finished pieces each week. My intention is to explore ideas and techniques and push myself beyond my comfort zone. I will be working in a series with several different images. My interests at this time are drawing, line, texture and color. I will be posting exercises and challenges for myself and any others who wish to join in the Creativity Journey.

NEXT IDEA!
The last painting was more detailed than I really wanted, so I thought for awhile about a new approach. With the help of Photoshop Elements, I created a "notan" 2 value pattern. Using a failed painting, I drew the shapes of the light pattern on with a brush and gesso. Then I brushed a dark value of Dr. Martin's Hydrus over what was left. When that layer dried, I collaged some stamped collage paper over part of the painting, then covered the entire page with plain white tissue. So far I like the effect. I going to go slowly so I don't get too fussy.
Gosh, I wish I was standing over your shoulder as you explained this while you were doing it. Admittedly a tad lost, but it seems this was how your last beautiful piece came about too, or close to it. I eagerly await seeing what it ends up!
ReplyDeleteUnlike Autumn, I DID stand over your shoulder (today at Gallery Concord). It was great, as always, kibitzing with you. Hope I didn't bug the you-know-what out of you as you were painting with sticks, Hydrus, Dr. Martin, Tombow pen, flat brush, and lizard lick. What the heck, I couldn't have bugged you too badly as your painting is progressing quite beautifully! Seeya next time.
ReplyDeleteAutumn, sometimes just knowing a little gives you an idea to follow and you come up with a new approach that no one has attempted yet! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteDavid, it was a treat to be able to spend the afternoon with you. Hope we can do it again soon.
