Sorry, Gordon, too late. I already painted over the drawing. I took this painting to critique this morning and they declared it "finished". I was thinking of working on the hands a little more but everyone thought it was okay having a difference of opacity from the face and the hands and arms. I had hoped to keep the face a little more transparent but things got too dark too fast, so I added white to the colors and that adds opacity. Now all I have to do is fill out for forms for "Strokes of Genius 3" and submit it.
I really find this one interesting. I like that the face is opaque and the hands are not...wonderful expression..actually looks pained in some way! could this be from doing art?
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful!! The opacity of the face is a necessary element, in my opinion. It creates a wonderful contrast to the rest of the painting and is a focal area that is nicely supported by the other elements.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that you decided to painted over the smaller faces and concentrate on the big one- thats what makes your paintings different and creative cutting edge :) I do like the difference in opacity in the hands, arms and the face. All the best with "Strokes of Genius" --even though you are one already !

ReplyDeleteI too like the juxtaposition of the opague/transparent effect on the background faces. This is the kind of thing I have been experimenting with in my own work. I like the discrepencies.

ReplyDeleteDoesn't bother me a bit that the face, hands and arms are a bit different - in looking at my own, they are like that :) This one has an intense look in the eyes - deep, dark, knowing (hey, you've gone from Not Knowing to Knowing in one painting = good job!). Good luck on the entry. I'm sure I'll see it in there (bought the second in the series because you were in it :)
