I am challenging myself to work on my art every day and create a minimum of 2 finished pieces each week. My intention is to explore ideas and techniques and push myself beyond my comfort zone. I will be working in a series with several different images. My interests at this time are drawing, line, texture and color. I will be posting exercises and challenges for myself and any others who wish to join in the Creativity Journey.

MORE LIKE A PAINTED DRAWING!
I had a lot of fun making the stamp that I used for the tissue collage paper. The ink lines are stronger on this piece. I think I want to use more color instead of black for the drawing part. Each painting suggests another variation.
I think I would have only stamped her dress, but then I can't even paint. Like you said, "Each painting suggests another variation." You are so talented.
Myrna...I have found your blog via Guy's...and all i can say is WOW!!! This pieces are just fascinating and alive!!I am so excited to follow your work and see what comes next!
I find what you are doing very interesting, and wonderful. I draw on a small Moleskine in ink, and then add color. I've tried watercolors without the ink, and so far it hasn't worked for me. I've been considering what I would do when (as I intend) I increase the size and start painting in acrylic. Would I outline the drawings or not? (many of Alice Neel's later works come to mind). Keep at it. These are great!
Hi Kathy, I shall have to study Ben Shahn more carefully. A humbling comparison. Thank you!
Kass, that's the beauty of creating art! We each have different impulses, if you allow ourselves to follow where they lead.
BrendaJean, I am so happy you are creating a "story" to go with the image!
Hi Julie, Welcome to the blog. I look forward to you following along.
Hi Peggy, Thanks for the nice words. If we could fuse your genius for shapes and my penchant for lines, what would we have?
Hi Dan, thanks for the comments. I have not had luck with watercolor on the yellow moleskin book. Try drawing with a fine brush instead of pen and ink when you go to acrylic. Cheap Joe's Lizard's Lick #4 is my absolute favorite for great "caligraphic" lines in painting.
Hi Beverly, Thanks for adding me to your blog roll. It is an honor.
I like this technique very much. It's similar to Ben Shahn's work which is spectacular. And, the overall mood of the painting is wonderful!

ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome piece of art. I sense the woman's weariness and the colors and texture patterns are great.
